Websites for charities that turn visitors into supporters: clear about your cause, easy to donate, volunteer or refer through, and simple for your team to keep up to date.
What a charity website needs to do
A charity site has more jobs than most: explain the cause in seconds, take donations, recruit volunteers, reassure funders and serve the people you help. Each audience needs its own clear path through the site. I design around those journeys first, then build something fast and accessible on top.
- Clear user journeys for donors, volunteers, service users and partners.
- Donations that work: integrated with your platform, whether that’s Fundraise Up, Engaging Networks or Shopify with Gift Aid.
- Accessibility: readable, keyboard-friendly and built to WCAG guidelines, because your audience includes everyone.
- Speed: lightweight builds that load quickly on any phone and connection.
- Easy editing: WordPress or another CMS set up so your team can update news, events and pages without a developer.
- Found in search: proper titles, descriptions, structured data and share images from day one.
What might your website cost?
Five quick questions and you’ll get a ballpark figure. It takes about a minute, and you don’t need to give me your email.
| Your site | Typical build | Ongoing care |
|---|---|---|
| Small: a handful of key pages (about, what we do, get involved, contact) | £999 to £1,999 | £149 to £249 a month |
| Medium: several sections, news or stories, maybe 10 to 25 pages | £2,000 to £2,999 | £300 to £449 a month |
| Large: lots of content, multiple audiences, 25+ pages | £3,000 to £7,999 | £450 to £999 a month |
Online donations, integrations and help with content add to these. Every project is different, so I’ll give you a fixed price once we’ve talked. Tell me about your project
Charity websites I’ve built
Sutton Counselling
A South London charity offering affordable counselling had steady traffic but few referrals, and a dated design was putting off the full-fee clients it needed. A new logo, colour palette and WordPress site built around three clear audiences gave them a site that competes alongside private practices. Read the case study.
Sevenoaks Council Better Together
A community initiative from Sevenoaks District Council and its voluntary sector forum needed a portal where residents could find events, volunteer opportunities and community projects. I adapted the brand online and built a WordPress portal with mapping integration. Read the case study.
The Restart Project
A London social enterprise tackling e-waste had high bounce rates and a front page that buried its best content. A custom WordPress theme led with a clear mission and call to action, and fixed slow page loads. Read the case study.
How a project runs
- Discovery: your audiences, your goals and what’s not working today.
- Design: page layouts and the key journeys, shared for feedback before any build.
- Build: a fast, accessible site with your content, tested on real devices.
- Launch and training: redirects, search setup and a walkthrough for your team.
- Ongoing support if you want it. Some clients have worked with me for over five years.
I’m based in Salisbury, Wiltshire and work with charities across the UK. I give 10% of profits to Salisbury Foodbank.
