Dotdigital & Email Templates

Responsive email templates for Dotdigital and Mailchimp that look right in every inbox, built for charities and small businesses that need their newsletters, appeals and journeys to just work.

Why email templates break

Email is still built on old web technology, and every client renders it differently. A template that looks perfect in your editor can arrive in Outlook with buttons out of line, logos shifted or calls to action cut off on a phone. Fixing it takes hand-coded HTML and a lot of testing.

What I do

  • New template suites in Dotdigital or Mailchimp, designed to your brand and set up as reusable blocks your team can edit.
  • Fixes to existing templates: rendering bugs, button alignment, mobile readability and truncated text.
  • Fallback fonts and dark mode, so your emails stay on brand in clients that block web fonts or invert colours.
  • Appeal and journey emails: welcome series, donation receipts and campaign emails that match your website.
  • Accessible email: real text, not images of text, with readable sizes and contrast.

Case study: Carers Trust

Carers Trust needed a suite of Dotdigital templates fixed to a tight deadline, with the first one due the next day. Brought in at short notice through a referral, I diagnosed and fixed the rendering issues breaking the templates across email clients and devices: logo positioning, button alignment, truncated calls to action and readability on mobiles. I also added fallback font stacks to the underlying HTML to prevent a common rendering pitfall. Read the case study.

Quick turnaround when you need it

Campaign deadlines don’t move. If a template is broken the day before an appeal goes out, get in touch: small fixes can often be turned around in a day.
